This week saw the completion of a medical education course in Molo for health professionals from all over the Kipkelion District. The course was taught by a joint Irish and Kenyan teaching faculty and covered Essential Obstetric Care, Trauma and Integrated Management of Childhood Illness. The feedback from participants was excellent. The Health Surveys continued in the Kamasian Division. Conditions there are tough and this area has very basic needs. A successful Health Field Day was held in partnership with the local public health office yesterday, with over 500 people attending. A project management training was organised for FOL Kenya staff, and today a business planning training will be run for local people here in Londiani. The link visit from Mayo General Hospital to Londiani District Hospital begins tomorrow when the team from both hospitals meet in Nairobi. The exploratory visit will include meeting with staff in Nairobi hospitals, provincial hospitals and Ndubusat Clinic. Thursday next will be a big day in Londiani as the “ground breaking” will begin for the Operating Theatre in Londiani District Hospital. This is a project that FOL and the Londiani District Hospital Committee have worked on for the past 2 years. It will be a reason for a celebration and we look forward to the community party on Thursday!
